Drawing from credible, national surveys, the NCSH has produced a profile on the sexual health of youth. This profile provides a brief demographic overview, trends in relationships and communications, and a summary of sexual health knowledge and behaviors, physical health, and use of sexual health care services.

There are many positive and encouraging trends in youths’ sexual behavior over the past several decades– youth are waiting longer to initiate sex, rates of condom usage have increased, the number of youths’ sexual partners has decreased, and the teen pregnancy and birth rates have declined significantly. Many youth today engage in conversations about sex and sexual health with their partners and parents, and most access sexual and reproductive health care services. However, the trends are not all positive.
